More Names for the Supreme Court Shortlist

Speculation continues to swirl around who President Obama might name to the Supreme Court if there is a vacancy over the next four years. Bloomberg floats a few more names.

“California Attorney General Kamala Harris, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Virginia Seitz and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan are high on the lists. Obama would almost certainly choose a woman to succeed Ginsburg, ensuring the court continues to have three female justices.”

“The candidates to replace them also include a handful of federal appeals court judges, among them Obama appointees Mary Murguia and Jacqueline Nguyen and Clinton appointees Sidney Thomas and Merrick Garland.”

Why it matters: “Another Obama appointment would solidify that wing of the court, even if the balance doesn’t tip. Because a new justice would potentially serve for decades, Obama’s appointees would be in position to shape American law long after the onetime constitutional law professor has left the White House.”

Jennifer Granholm and Deval Patrick should be high on the list. Both still quite young and very qualified.

I will be pretty upset if he has two spots to fill and only gives one of them to a woman instead of both. The Supreme Court needs as many women as it can get.

The Supreme Court needs to have 4-5 women on it at all times. We’re not there yet.

How about a protestant. Disabled person? Gay? Ambidextrous? Asian American? Former professional athlete?

Why not just add 3 more seat to the Supreme Court and make it 12 seats.
You can have 1 black man, 1 black woman,1 hispanic man, 1 hispanic woman, 1 asian man, 1 asian woman, 1 jewish man, 1 jewish woman, 1 catholic man,1 catholic woman, 1 protestant man, 1 protestant woman. THERE.

I hope two, if not three, judges see this as an opportune time to retire, and do so. Why risk hanging on, then having to quit under a Republican president?
