Don't Mind the Fiscal Cliff Posturing

Peter Orszag, the former director of President Obama’s Office of Management and Budget, explains why most of the pessimistic accounts of the “fiscal cliff” negotiations are likely irrelevant to the likelihood of an actual deal.

“The optimistic view is that, so far, the two sides are just positioning. After all, if a deal were reached weeks ahead of the deadline, both sides would worry that they gave too much.”
