Women to Enter Military Combat Roles

The Associated Press reports that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta “has decided to allow women to serve in combat roles, a watershed policy shift that follows years of calls for a fully inclusive military.”
USA Today: “The services will have until January 2016 to implement the change… The chiefs of the services unanimously support the change in policy… Military services may seek special exceptions to the new policy if they believe any positions must remain closed to women.”
“This decision could open more than 230,000 jobs, many in Army and Marine infantry units, to women.”
