Rand Paul Speaks

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has taken to the floor of the Senate since 11:47 a.m. EST today to conduct a talking filibuster of the vote to confirm John Brennan as head the Central Intelligence Agency.

While Paul has acknowledged that he lacks the votes to ultimately block the nomination, he has used the nearly five hours monologue to voice his concerns over the Obama administration’s drone policy.

You can watch Paul’s continued filibuster on C-SPAN 2.

Washington Post: “Paul has since been joined in his symbolic effort by Republicans Sens. Mike Lee (Utah), Ted Cruz (Tex.), Jerry Moran (Kan.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Saxby Chambliss (Ga.). He has also gotten some bipartisan support from Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden (Ore.).”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has re-scheduled the confirmation vote for Thursday.

Careful what you wish for….you might just GET IT!

On most issues, I think Rand Paul is crazy.

But he has a point here. At the very least, I’m glad he’s bringing attention to important issues.

Rand Paul is an attention whore. Do you honestly believe that fellow Republicans agree with him. Bet McConnell wishes that Rand had permanent laringytis
ps, please give Meffy, and Terj a big wet one for me. They could silence me on Taegans channel, they can’t shut me up here!

So Republicans are fine with sending poor kids into war zones. But use something that doesn’t risk American lives and actually makes our bloated military-industrial complex more efficient…well, they never pass up an opportunity to scratch some political notches in their belts.

First grasp the issues before you render judgment…the issue is with the assassination of american citizens by drones…you may believe, as mr brennan does, that our safety from terrorists demands our disregard of due process in certain circumstances…you may believe, as mr paul does, that nothing justifies it…i can understand taking either side but i cannot understand not wanting to know first of all what is at stake…

First grasp what I actually said before you render judgement. I was simply pointing out that the nationalist, imperialistic Republican Party making an issue out of this is nothing but political opportunism- especially from the likes of Rubio and Moran. And notice the snippet above says nothing about targeting American citizens, it only says “concerns over the drone program”.

There’s a very complex legal argument to be made for or against targeting terrorists who have American citizenship. Unless the GOP does an about-face on other matters of civil liberties vs national security, they (especially some of those listed) don’t hold any credibility.
