Obama Pushes Ambitious Internet Access Plan

“President Obama liked the idea laid out in a memo from his staff: an ambitious plan to expand high-speed Internet access in schools that would allow students to use digital notebooks and teachers to customize lessons like never before. Better yet, the president would not need Congress to approve it.” the Washington Post reports.

“White House senior advisers have described the little-known proposal, announced earlier this summer under the name ConnectEd, as one of the biggest potential achievements of Obama’s second term.”

“There’s just one catch: The effort would cost billions of dollars, and Obama wants to pay for it by raising fees for mobile-phone users. Doing that relies on the Federal Communications Commission, an independent agency that has the power to approve or reject the plan.”

In the 80’s Apple put a Mac in every Ca classroom — on their dime. They wanted to capture the young. Mobile phone users don’t have to pay for this. Have the tablet producers fund and brand it.

      Speaking of Apple….

That would be great but billions is a very big investment. In the 80’s technology didn’t change nearly as fast as it does now. So more of a risk that it will create brand loyalty. Still — I can picture Amazon thinking about such a plan.

I will happily pay for this with fees or taxes. It will be a huge boon for public schools. A huge boon for the future job options for so many children. That in itself is an investment in the economy. It will create jobs now. A plus for today’s economy.

I don’t have children. I happily pay taxes for schools. Okay it can hurt a bit writing that check. But, it is money that helps all of us. Having a good educational system is a large part of what made the U.S. an economic power house. We need to provide a good education for all our children.

Besides, other people paid their taxes so that I could go to school. It’s my turn.

That was a MAJOR winner for President Clinton Clinton High on Internet Initiative If President Obama can make it happen in forward thinking way – incorporating quantum devices and 100-1000x extra capacity and interfaces, it will contribute immeasurably to US dominance in education, industry and defense.
