Countdown to Shutdown

The Washington Post looks at the latest budget maneuvers by the House and Senate as the government approaches its first shutdown since 1996.
“The Senate rejected House amendments to a short-term spending bill Monday, killing a provision that would delay President Obama’s health-care law… The Senate later passed a bill that ensures that members of the armed forces will continue to get paid in the event of a shutdown.”
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) ”is presenting rank-and-file Republicans with an option that would include a one-year delay of the cornerstone of the Affordable Care Act — the so-called individual mandate — while adding a provision that would strip federal subsidies for lawmakers and their staffs.”
