Yellen’s Senate Confirmation Could Take a While

“Budget battles on Capitol Hill could draw out the process of confirming Janet Yellen as chairwoman of the Federal Reserve,” according to the Wall Street Journal, as could “opposition from some Republicans who disagree with the Fed’s aggressive efforts to boost the economy.”

“The White House might have trouble getting the necessary paperwork to the banking committee quickly, because many administration personnel have been furloughed… the shutdown could disrupt the scheduling of meetings between Ms. Yellen and banking-panel members who want to meet with her before the confirmation hearing.”

“The confirmation of a new Fed chief will pose a test of the Senate’s delicate detente over the president’s nominees… The willingness of some Senate Republicans to help broker that agreement could smooth the way for Ms. Yellen’s confirmation.”
