Republicans Agree to Obamacare Modification

“At the prodding of business organizations, House Republicans quietly secured a recent change in President Obama’s health law to expand coverage choices, a striking, one-of-a-kind departure from dozens of high-decibel attempts to repeal or dismember it,” the AP reports.

“Democrats describe the change involving small-business coverage options as a straightforward improvement of the type they are eager to make, and Obama signed it into law. Republicans are loath to agree, given the strong sentiment among the rank and file that the only fix the law deserves is a burial.”

“No member of the House GOP leadership has publicly hailed the fix, which was tucked, at Republicans’ request, into legislation preventing a cut in payments to doctors who treat Medicare patients. It is unclear how many members of the House rank and file knew of it because the legislation was passed by a highly unusual voice vote without debate.”

    and so it begins…

The Rs probably did not want to publicize their hypocrisy on this issue, caving as always to their big bucks supporters.

What a concept: once a law is a law, work to improve it rather than keep holding symbolic votes to repeal it that achieve nothing.

I’m so old, I can remember that this was routine. Jeez, how time flies …

I also heard hidden in this legislation that it approves the Keystone XL pipeline and another poison pill I can’t recall. Maybe that’s why Dems aren’t mentioning the fix either.

    • quark

The doc fix 3 years ago appropriated some funding to Keystone X, but this year’s bill did not “approve” Keystone in any way.

Are you making stuff up or believing uninformed rumor mongers?

  • Lynda Groom

What do you mean the GOP may not have been aware what they voted upon? They passed something without reading it. Oh the irony.

    • Becklev

Snicker. They’re the best entertainment ever, if you appreciate irony.

      • S1AMER

But only if you appreciate irony. Otherwise, they’re a horror story.

        • Becklev

Actually, they’re both. Versatile, aren’t they?

  • S1AMER

Some Republicans got some ‘splainin to do to their constituents, that’s for sure.

Whatever is hidden will surely come to light. As for the Republicans, is there not a saying that: “there’s no hiding place for the gold fish in a bowl?”
