Lawmakers More Interested in Alien Life Than Climate Change

Huffington Post: “Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), chairman of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, has a long track record of climate change denial. And under his leadership, the committee has spent more time holding hearings on the existence of extraterrestrial life than it has examining climate science or the repercussions of global climate change.”

Smith’s committee has organized 15 hearings on space exploration, “including three that focused on discovering alien life.”

“Meanwhile, Smith’s committee has held just two hearings dedicated to climate change.”

“Several House committees are responsible for addressing U.S. energy and environmental issues. The House Energy and Commerce Committee has held only one hearing on climate change, while the House Natural Resources Committee has yet to take up the issue in the 113th Congress.”

“While much of the congressional climate change denial happens in the House, the Democrat-led Senate has also failed to exhibit substantial interest in the issue.”

“The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hasn’t addressed the topic since 2012. The Environment and Public Works Committee has held three hearings on climate change this Congress.”

THIS IS A VERY SAD AND SORRY SITUATION FOR OUR COUNTRY AND OUR PEOPLE . WE HAVE ELECTED PUBLIC OFFICIALS WHO GET IN OFFICE, AND ONCE IN OFFICE,FEEL THAT THEY NO LONGER NEED TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT.THESE SELF-IMPORTANT, SELF-RIGHTEOUS, SELF-INDULGED, CAREER POLITICIANS, ANSWER ONLY TO THEIR PARTY AND SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS. WE HAVE BEEN LET DOWN BY OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, AND ARE NOW AT THE MERCY OF POLITICIANS WHO REALLY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE POOR AND UNEMPLOYED WHO ARE STRUGGLING AND SUFFERING WHILE THEY TAKE BREAK AFTER BREAK, AND VACATION, AFTER VACATION. THE REPUBLICANS ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MORE THAN 2.6 MILLION UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WITHOUT BENEFITS, BECAUSE THEY CHOSE NOT TO HELP THEM. IT HAS BEEN FIVE MONTHS THAT THESE FAMILIES HAVE BEEN WITHOUT UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, AND THEY HAVE WATCHED THE REPUBLICANS PLAY THEIR WAITING GAME, MAKING EVERY ATTEMPT TO STALL THE VOTING ON THE EXTENSION BILL, IN THE HOPES IT WILL GET TOO LATE TO VOTE FOR IT. THEY HAVE DELIBERATELY WASTED FIVE MONTHS, WHILE THESE FAMILIES FACED EVICTIONS, HOME FORECLOSURES, BANKRUPTCY, AND HOMELESSNESS. THESE POOR FAMILIES HAVE LOST EVERYTHING, WHILE WAITING FOR THE HELP THAT THEY DESERVED . THE REPUBLICANS HAVE NOW JUST HANDED OVER TO THE DEMOCRATS 2.6 MILLION NEW VOTES IN THE COMING ELECTION. THESE UNEMPLOYED FAMILIES WILL NOT FORGET THE BETRAYAL OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

Perhaps they are more interested in the possibility of alien life because it is scientifically more probable than anthropogenic global warming/climate change. Not saying the Earth isn’t warming, it has generally been doing so since the last Ice Age, and will continue to do so until the start of the next Ice Age. Man’s contribution to this warming (Anthropogenic Global Warming) is negligible.

How exactly do you expect us to increase the level of CO2 in the air from 280 to 400 ppm and still increasing. To terraform the world by destroying vast stretches of forested land etc. and not warm the planet.

The IPCC estimated a greater than 95% chance that more than 50% of warming is caused by humans years ago.

Current science indicates that the present rate of warming is 10-20 times faster than anything that occurred during an ice age recovery.

Volcanic eruptions dwarf man’s CO2 input. Even the UN panel has backed off some of their most dire predictions (particularly when the predicted events failed to occur). Your “current science” doesn’t even acknowledge the fact that there has been no warming for approaching two decades. And we are still warming, so we are still recovering from the last ice age, and will until we start the next ice age, although it is possible that the current halt in warming might be the hiatus between ice ages.

The makers of KoolAid appreciate your business.

“Volcanic eruptions dwarf man’s CO2 input”
          not even close
Volcanoes cause a temporary cooling effect due to ash and particulates put in the atmosphere. The amount of greenhouse gases is negligible compared to human global emissions in a single year in all but the biggest eruptions which only occur once every few hundred years and even a Supervolcano wouldn’t be even a few percent of the greenhouse gases humans have emitted over the last 100 years.

“no warming for approaching two decades”

this is an easily refuted lie.

averages matter more than records, even though records get the headlines
Every year in the 1980′s was warmer than the 20th century average, every year in the 90′s was warmer than the 80′s average, and every year from 2000 to the present was warmer than the 90′s average.

we are in the natural “hiatus between ice ages”. The changes of the last century have nothing to do with that. All the natural factors that could cause this have alibi’s. the only things that appears to have changed is the amount of co2 in the air from 280 to 400 ppm, and the human impact on the land areas of the earth.

The only cool aid being drunk is by your preference for political ideology over science.
